Spring Time = Closet Cleaning ?

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

Spring and your thoughts turn to a clean and organized closet.

The first part of the project requires you to remove all the items in the closet. When everything is cleared out you will want to scrub down all the walls and flat surfaces and clean the floors. Package and clearly mark any box or bag with a list of contents for further reference. However, before you return anything to the closet you should consider removing items that you have not used in two years. Goodwill would be a good choice for these items. What I had not considered was the clothing part of this collection.

Then I was at a business meeting that I run for the local small business association (Arizona Small Business Association) or ASBA for short. The speaker a highly respected man was speaking about the 80/20 rule as it relates to many things, such as the clothes in our closet. He noted that 80% of the time we wear only 20% of our clothes.  So I later noted that I would mention this on my blog and that is what I am doing.

If you are like myself, hanging on to clothes, until you drop those 20 extra pounds , well stop it now! Join me in collecting those items and haul them off to Goodwill or the organization of your choice. Here’s the motivator. Why hang onto those old things, if you actually drop those extra pounds you will want to show off the new you in new clothes… Right!

Mine are bagged up now and will be off to Goodwill soon. Another benefit is that you will actually be able to find those boxes and bags that you just properly marked and returned to their closet home… Thanks

House cleaning tip - Clean it now!

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Everyone knows dried on food is much harder to remove… Think dried egg yokes…
Everyone knows that dried on food is no fun to remove… No, it’s a real pain and requires more time and effort… So as you will begin to see that the organized house cleaner has more time to relax in their clean home… It’s all about discipline…

So let’s get organized… My first suggestion here is annul retentive persons dream… Do the pots and pans while you are still cooking… Along with the stove, and sinks… Oh, yes, if you are cooking a marinara sauce you might want to include the floors and cabinets…
It’s all about discipline… I run three businesses… And I eat and cook a lot… A lot for a little guy… And if I don’t keep on top of things… A mess is just waiting for me… I make it a point that the kitchen is cleaned before I go to bed… What about you…?

Do the pots and pans, stove, sinks, and counters while you cook. Of course, if you are cooking marinara sauce, you will want to include the wall, floors, and cabinets. You will be glad you did.

The ultimate Eco friendly house cleaning tips

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

This one involves cleaning chrome: Chrome bathroom fixtures that is. Now, I have known about this tip for a while I just didn’t have anywhere to test it out. There just doesn’t seem to be to many homes in Tucson with chrome bathroom fixtures.

I actually had to place some free online classifieds ads to find someone that would try this for me. Apparent good old kitchen flour can be used to clean up chrome. Just apply the flour, and then rub and scrub a little. Now, all you have to do is rinse, dry, and watch it sparkle… Who knew!

House cleaning tips - Cleaning out your vases

Friday, October 5th, 2007

Cleaning out your vases can be a problem. When vases are not cleaned out properly the water turns sour and nasty. This will destroy the freshness of cut flowers. Since many vases have hard to reach nooks this can pose a problem. Cleaning the gunk out of the bottom of a vase can be tough. Start by getting out all that you can. Then drop in two Alka-Seltzer tablets. Now, add hot water. This should do the trick for you. finally rinse out the vase after the  bubbles have gone away.

House Cleaning Tip - Be organized clean only once!

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

Be an organized house cleaner. Cleaning, and then having to re-cleaning is a huge waste of time! But many of us do it all the time! Have you ever vacuumed the carpets first and then dusted the furniture? That dust settles which may require another round of vacuuming. Consider a planned and organized approach. When entering a room to be cleaned start at the top and away from the doorway. Work down and out and you will work only once. Cleaning twice just waste time!

Make an appointment for house cleaning!

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

Cleaning is like anything else in life that you do not like to do. It is hard to be motivated to preform the tasks and you are easily distracted, especially in our well connected worlds. So I would like to suggest that you make an appointment to clean your home. View it as a very important appointment. Then turn off all your distractions, such as phones and turn on your ipod. This should eliminated the distractions. You will be amazed by how quickly you will get this project completed.
