Cleaning Firberglass in the bathroom

Monday, July 30th, 2007

Your Fiberglass tubs and shower can be cleaned! You really need to keep after it to be successful when you consider cleaning fiberglass tubs and showers. They will begin to turn a nasty shade of yellow if you do not clean them often. An Eco friendly solutions is to use two parts of vinegar and two parts water. When cleaning a bathroom, be sure to pay particular attention to your fiberglass shower, which can yellow if not cleaned regularly. To remove these stains from your white fiberglass shower, try using a solution of one part white vinegar and three parts water. If the stains persist, you can try using an oxalic acid product, such as Barkeeper’s Friend.

Blood Removial from fabric - a cloth cleaning tip

Friday, July 27th, 2007

Blood removal from fabric - This can be tough if it has dried. You may first want to soak the stained area in Hydrogen Peroxide for an hour or so before attempting to wash the fabric. Remember to use only cold water when washing blood stains. This works much better if you do not let the blood dry. Take every precaution when dealing with blood such as using latex gloves. Many deadly viruses can live days in dried blood. Never assume anything when dealing with blood your safety is more important than clothe!

Requesting Free Assistance on Starting your own Business!

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

I get so many requests for free help that I must finally address this issue:

Here is an example email request:

” Hello,
I just came across the link to your website on Craigslist. It is very impressive and inspiring. I am also in cleaning business (residential only) in Chicago area and thinking about turning this one person operation into something bigger. Your background tells me that you have a lot of business and managerial experience. If you are interested in sharing some of your knowledge, I would love to exchange e-mails with you. There is no pressure as I understand that you must be very busy. I will be visiting your blog from time to time anyway for new ideas and tips. I wish you the best of luck in your business and looking forward to hearing from you.”

Now, this is one of the nicer requests that I have received and I get a lot of these. It seems that a lot of people seem to think that it’s OK to ask a stranger over the internet to help them. Now, maybe because I offer free cleaning tips that they think I will also offer free business advice as well. I must give credit to this woman in that she was not demanding and stroked my ego with positive comments. The usual request goes something like this “I am starting a cleaning business and I found your site and I would like you to help me.” When I email them and state that I do consulting at $50.00 with a two hour minimum and that I accept Papal I never hear from them again.

Now, you might be thinking why is this person worth so much money?

Here’s why:

· I track 25 Keyword search for the website and blog, such as, “Tucson House Cleaning Service” and “House Cleaning Tips Blog”. Yesterday, 07/21/07 I tracked those Keyword phrases across Yahoo, Google, and MSN. http://www.yourfreshstart.us and

www.yourfreshstart.us/wp

These hold down 34 #1 search results positions!

· I have previously owned a janitorial service and three other businesses.

· The house cleaning website has a Page Rank of $ after only 6 months.

· The website has increased the amount of visitors every month

· The website had 1182 unique visitors last month and 2234 total visitors.

· I have another business Tucson SEO Solutions at http://www.tucsonseosolutions.com

· I do training seminars such as “How to market on the internet without having a website” and SEO Basics - Search Engine Optimization - Understanding how to drive traffic to your website

· I run an business Meet-Up Group, Tucson Entrepreneurs of Change at

· I am a member of the Arizona Small Business Association (ASBA)

www.asba.com

· I am a member of Networking Entrepreneurs of Tucson

· I am writing a book on “So you want to start a cleaning service” This book is a polar opposite of book that makes it sound so easy. Owning and starting any business is not easy. This book will offer the unvarnished truth about the business.

· I am also developing another book project “From cleaning toilets to cleaning –up websites.

What I do not have is a lot of time. I work 12 hour days seven days a week. I only allow myself part of Sunday off. So I generally don’t have much time to offer my time and experience for free, unless I know you personally. What I will do for this writer any anyone else is this:

If you would like my help without paying for it for my experience I will require that you make a quality blog comment on this website and 3 other house cleaning related blogs. These blogs must allow you to place a link back to this website. Then send me a link to those posts once I have verified those posts I will offer you free email or phone consultations. Making four posts take me around 30 minutes or less. So these 4 posts are worth $25.00 in assistance for me.

The biggest benefit for me as is saving me time because the last time I checked it can’t be replaced. I want to take the time to thank my writer from Chicago her email spurred me to write this post. As a business person, and a person in general, I believe in creating win/win situations.

I also believe in affirmations and here’s one that I use daily “I am a child of God, a child of the universe, positive people, places, and things come my way daily and hourly…” Thanks, and have a great day!

Running a cleaning service

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

I don’t always have House Cleaning Tips to share: No sometimes I write about the interesting people that I encounter along the way. I often, as in, almost daily, place ads on Craigslist for this service. While most people who call from these ads are very nice… Some are just plain wacky… Late last night I got a call from a woman who demanded that I give her a quote over the phone. Now I only information that she gave me was the square footage and she expected and demanded a price quote.

It made on difference that my adds have links to my website where I explain that I never give a quote over the phone or by email. To me that would be like asking a mechanic to give a quote over the phone having never seen the vehicle. It just can not be done and be accurate.  This is why I offer a free cleaning consultation and a written bid. It is how all professionals do it. She also kept rambling on about not wanting to pay $200.00 to have her house cleaned. She didn’t care when I explained that what she wanted was not how I do business… I quickly ended that conversation, yet she kept calling back. Whe this kind of thing occurs I wonder “did this person run out of meds!”
Then I took a call today from a gentleman. He demanded to know my name and why I did not include my name in my ads like everyone else. I politely responded by providing my name. I then asked why that was important to him. He responded “That’s all right, I don’t want to do business with you and hung up.”  Now, I ask why did he call me if it bothered him that my business name appears in my ads and not my personal name.  He thought nothing about questioning my business practices. However, he took offense when I asked him why that was important to him… Now, I’m thinking that if was that big a deal that my name didn’t appear in my ads, Then why, I wonder did he call?

Now, I have been in business for myself on and off for decades… And I have seen a lot of strange behavior… But it seems like any more that people are way to caught up in themselves… For many it doesn’t make any difference what my adds or website say… People just ignore what is written or explained and demand what they want…. And they expect it get it. These kind out people just act like spoiled little kids. I am not alone in these observations, as I go to lots of small business group meeting and hear the same complaints from others.

So for me… I mostly just laugh to myself about it all… “I tend to think that they must be off their meds” and move on… Life is much to short to take these few very seriously. Plus if it makes interesting copy when I blog about them. Have a great day.

Kitchen Cleaning made easier

Sunday, July 15th, 2007

This one goes under preventative care… If you are like many of us your cooking leaves around a mess to clean on the stove and counter tops. When removing pot and pan lids to stir they tend to drip onto these surfaces. Then if not removed quickly they can be very hard to remove after they have dried.

The solution I came across today is a really cool idea, if I might say so myself. I was cutting veggies and left the cutting board on the counter. So when I picked up a lid from what has cooking it was placed onto the cutting board. All those messy dripping fell onto the cutting board. Then I quickly replaced the pot lid after stirring the contents. Now, the clean up was an easy rinse away. I did not have to risk cleaning up spills on an active hot stove top. Some of the best cleaning tips just happen…

House cleaning the blog

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

One of the many things that I do is run a Meet-up group. The group is known as Tucson Entrepreneurs of Change. I was working a presentation about internet marketing without a website. As part of that presentation I was doing research on SEO or Search Engine Marketing.

So I visited YouTube and did a search for SEO. There I found a video about Word Press blogs. I discovered some feature of this blog that make reading easier for readers is not search engine friendly. So Then I set out to do some needed house cleaning. It will have very little effect on most readers, but will make the web spiders happy… So yes, house cleaning does come in many forms.

House Cleaning Tips - How to choose a cleaning service Part 10

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

Well, this series is finally coming to an end. The last thing that you need to consider is your pets and family members. How do you plan to manage your pets during the cleaning process? Do you have any ill or infirmed family that need to be considered.

Also when you have a service scheduled you need to make sure that everyone knows well in advance. It is very awkward to arrive at a home only to find someone still in the shower. It has happened more that I would like to consider. Having written all of this I would like to wish you the best… And if you live in Tucson please do consider my service.

House Cleaning Tips - Why things sometimes take so long!

Sunday, July 8th, 2007

Well, I thought this series would never end. Sorry for the delays for any of you that have been following this series. My Home/Business computer has become badly infected with a nasty “Vendu Virus”. While attempting to solve this problem I ended up purchasing hundreds of virus removal programs and services along with an un-needed hard drive. I also lost the use of my USB ports.

So yesterday I finally said enough is enough and purchased a new PC. It wonderful to have no current virus problems and working USB ports. I will be finishing “How to choose a cleaning service soon… Thanks

One last thing if you would like to offer your cleaning tips please let me know.

House Cleaning Tips: Choose a cleaning service Part 9

Sunday, July 1st, 2007

We have covered a lot so far. Now, it’s time to consider scheduling and keys. What will you do if you are not able to be home? About 1/3 of my customers are not home when the cleaning service is preformed. So we have had to make arrangements.

Are you comfortable supplying a key for the cleaner? I have customer who provide keys and or a garage opener. I have customers who have had someone let me in. I have had customers leave their homes unlocked! because something had come up. I do not usually allow this option. It opens everybody up to liabilities. I have had customers who also don’t think anything about leaving windows open as well.

These are all very important things to consider. The option of having someone let you in is not a very good option. This just leads to many scheduling problems. I no longer will work where I have to depend on someone else letting me in or that wants to leave a home unlocked.

I would ask that you take scheduling very seriously. I have lost thousands of dollars when the customer is a no show. No emergencies to happen… So I am usually flexible… After all, as a one person operation when I get sick I can not send a replacement. I allow for one missed appointment with a reasonable explanation. However, with me there is no three strikes and your out… It’s two and gone! Part of my marketing is dependability and dependability is a two way street.
