Saturday, August 25th, 2007

Yep, your trusted vacuum needs cleaned as well! The trick in understanding how often to clean your vacuum requires an inspection. Make sure the vacuum is not plugged in to a power socket when performing this maintenance.

If you have an upright vac you will want to turn it upside down to examine the beater brush. You will want to remove the built up strings and hair. It is best to begin this process by removing the beater brush. This will vary from machine to machine, but should be very easy to figure out this process. More later…

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

When you have spilled coffee: Onto your clothes quick reaction is essential to prevent staining. You will want to blot the excess coffee from the fabric. Then remove the clothing and run it under very cold water. Never rub the stain only use gently blotting action.

Then you will want to try a clear soda such as club soda. You will want to completely soak the stained fabric in the soda for 5 minutes or so. Then repeat the blotting process. If you do not have clear soda you can substitute vinegar at a rate of 50% vinegar and 50% water. Another option is to use dish washing liquid.

More Stories from a House Cleaner

Monday, August 20th, 2007

I have written from time to time about my experiences and today is no exception. I have been cleaning a home of two retired individuals. When I started working for this couple she had just had a series of strokes and was not doing so well!

My cleaning assistance was a great relief for the husband. All his time and energy went into taking her to therapy and her daily care. We all have grown very close over the last half year. I have become part of their lives and vis versa. I have delighted in watching her recover and be able to carry on a conversation. It is things like this that make this work worth while. I never got into this business just to clean homes. No, I really wanted to make a difference in people’s lives.

So it is with sadness that I am working on building another business. I am going from scrubbing toilets to cleaning up websites. This process is known as SEO or search engine optimization. I help people get their websites noticed by the major search engines. This website alone ranks #1 35 times for 25 keyword searches across Google, Yahoo, and MSN. I now provide what I have learned with this website to other website owners.

This is all truly amazing when I consider that at this time last year I did not know anything about SEO. What put the fire under me was my website designer telling I would never get on the first page of Google results and if I did it would take at least 6 months. This website has been there since it launch in January!

Last month this website had 2600 visitors and 1500 of then were unique visitors. Call it bragging if you will… That’s OK with me… I keep telling the story because it is very, very true… So don’t ever let someone tell you that you can not do something… Believe in yourself and your abilities… Every no just gets you closer to that first yes!

House Cleaning in the Kitchen - Bunrt Pots

Saturday, August 18th, 2007

I was reviewing my website stats today: When I noticed that I had two inquiries about burnt pots so I thought I would write about that. Common wisdom here is to soak and scrub and soak and scrub while silently cursing and swearing that you will never let this happen again.

A much better solution is available. Fill the pot in question about half full of water then let to come to a vigorous boil. Let the pot boil for about ten minutes. The boiling action will loosen the burnt on food. Then let the water cool, drain, and scrub. This will make a tough job much easier.

House Cleaning Tip - Humidifier care

Monday, August 13th, 2007

This may seem like a strange issue since I live in Tucson Arizona. However, many a home owner here has a humidity problem in the summer. We have what we call the monsoon season here in the summer. However, where I grew up in Pennsylvania we had real humidity problems.

Molds and bacteria just love these devices along with those vaporizers that are often used in the winter months. You should consider cleaning these daily with a strong disinfectant. The tank is where most of the problems occur.

A unique way to clean baseboards - Really

Friday, August 10th, 2007

I know this woman, a very nice person, but a little unusual in her ways. She likes to go running every three days. Now, this woman also lives in a very large house with 18 rooms. All 18 of those rooms have baseboards of varying heights and styles. She designed the house and directed the construction, every phase.

She also has this thing about clean baseboards! Even though she has a live-in housekeeper, she does not let her clean the baseboards. That chore my friend preforms herself after every three days and only after the completion of her 3 mile run. Now, this is where the unique part of this tale begins. My friend goes to her computer and pulls up her Excel spreadsheet to confirm what room she will clean that day. Then she enters that room and removes her running shoes but retains her sweat soaked ankle gripping cotton socks.

Now, she begins to clean the baseboards. In and of itself, cleaning the baseboards would not be worth witting about, let alone reading about… However, its how she cleans the baseboards that is fascinating. She always begins her cleaning at the northern facing wall and in the east corner of the room. She then moves in a counter clockwise movement. Her dusting tool is her right foot which is still wearing a sweat drenched sock from her 3 mile run! Then once she completes this ritual, she return to her computer and updates the Excel spreadsheet, which is titled “BS”… Which I guess stands for baseboards and socks!
Hea, have a great weekend…

Shower cleaning

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

Calcium buildup on shower doors can get to be ugly: Try wiping them with lemon oil mixed with lemon juice. This will remove the buildup. The cooler the room is the better as the lower temperature will the mixture to adhere longer to the surface. You may need to reply then scrub. This method works because acids in the lemon destroy the calcium. When the calcium has been removed then coat the glass with auto wax finish to prevent future build up.
