Sunday, November 25th, 2007

Every so often I write asking here from green cleaning companies. What I have to offer is exposure on a number Google ranked blog. Dave, the duct cleaner recently contacted me about witting about his services. I am more than happy to offer green cleaners some exposure, for free.

As you have noticed this is the only top ranked cleaning tips blog that doesn’t use ads. However, this blog does take time to maintain its top search ranking. So all offer to write are usually accepted and your comments are treasured… Thanks so very much…

House Cleaning Tips for the holiday meal!

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

I had an interesting discussion about cleaning up after the big meal! My honey (female) was off visiting friends when I (male) cooked the big meal for the two of us yesterday. She remarked that not only had I cooked but the kitchen was cleaned as well, while she was gone.

I hate a dirty kitchen! My home growing up was always clean, and that was with 11 children. That’s right a family of 11 and a clean home. My mother ran the home like a good business woman. She delegated the chores readily. The dishes never got left around with hardened crud. No we cooked and we ate. We cleaned and we put things away, as in right away! We were the washing machines and hand dryers.

When I reflected about my past I realized that it has had a big impact on my life today. I learned early on in life to clean while you cook. So when the potatoes and such cooked and cooled a bit, they were removed from the pan and into their serving dishes. The dirty nasty pots then were filled with hot water and soap to soak. That which could be readily cleaned was and yes, we use the old fashioned methods. Hand washing and air drying! So by the time the meal was set out most of the dishes were cleaned. Then we set about the task of dirtying more dishes, knowing the hard work had been done.

On another note: Try finishing your bird off on the grill, as in smoking it! The results are incredible. Where I live the wood is Mesquite! That store purchased stuff isn’t even close.

If you enjoyed this article or any of the tips… Please consider leaving a comment… Since I don’t run ads… It helps motivate me to write on!

House Cleaning Tips - A word for the wise!

Monday, November 19th, 2007

If you own a website be aware of where your domain name is registered! I know that this has nothing to do with cleaning tips but it has everything to do with this blog and maybe your website… This website was registered by a Mr. Richard Fray, of www.northstewart.com, on my behalf. The problem is that he registered the website in his name. When I discovered this I requested that it be placed in my name. Which was done.

However, the web designer, Mr. Fray, never moved the website registration out of his account and control. Since he still controlled the account I could not purchase an extension of the registration for another year. I was locked out the the registration process. The end result is that the website was down for four days.

What made things interesting is that the whois.org directory of registered website showed that the site was registered by a company known as Enom. However, a call to Enom revealed that another company actually registered the website and that they are a reseller of Enom services. That company, namecheap.com, only had a voice message service available for customers. So I left my message, now since it was the weekend, I wasn’t expecting a response until Monday. So I also tried email support.

To my surprise they emailed me back very quickly and left a phone message with an 800 number to call on Monday. They eventually informed me that yes, Mr. Fray, does control the account, however, the offered a work around for me. I could deposit funds in my account and they would resolve the matter and get my site back up and functioning. This did not however, resolve the long term issue that he has control of the domain, even thou I own the domain.

The best way to look at this is you own the car that you are driving, but the bank also has control of the car, if you have taken out a loan on that car. This is a big problem for me since I am trying to sell the business and website. I need the registration in my account, not just in my name.

I had complete trust in this person and that trust was broken. So I caution you to cover your assets. DO NOT EVER… LET SOMEONE ELSE REGISTER YOUR DOMAIN NAME! IT IS A VERY SIMPLE PROCESS… I have done it four times since I had this site registered by someone else… This is way to serious a matter to trust to someone else.

Unless he changes his position, I have no other recourse other than to take legal action. So please learn from my mistake rather than having to learn the hard way. I thought this person was a friend!

Eco Friendly way to clean beer spills.

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

The quicker the response the better: I wrote sometime ago on my first blog about removing beer stains. It was Saint Patrick’s Day and it seemed like a the tip might to timely. So with the holidays soon approaching, here I go again.

First, remember this, the darker the beer the harder it will be to remove. Always start by testing an inconspicuous spot to see if the carpet color in color fast material. Wet carpet is the easiest to clean. You start by blotting the soaked area with paper or cloth towels. You should be as gentle as possible and do not rub the surface.
When you have removed the beer through blotting you can then begin the cleaning process. This will require a table spoon or so of generic dish soap. and a small amount of warm water. Place the detergent on the stain then wait about 15 minutes. Now you will rinse this area with warm water and repeat the blotting process. Remember never use a rubbing action.

The darker beers may require repeating these steps another time or two.

The Robo Vacuum cleaner - A christmas Gift?

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

I know, it’s a bit early! However, I know many of you this weekend are looking and considering Christmas gifts. A good choice, for the techie in your family may be the Robo Vacuum. No real cleaning professional would have one of these in their home!

If you are looking for something fun and different this would be a good choice. That is if your budget is in the $200.00 and up range. This product is more toy than a functional vacuum. The batteries will run out well before your floors ever get cleaned. They are usually good for about 35 minutes or so. However, if you are unusually lazy or physically impaired this might be a good option for you. As a cleaning machine the Robo just doesn’t fill the bill.
