HomEx

The Socially Responsible Home Cleaning Institute

HomEx is one of Boston’s fastest growing home cleaning services. Their unique business model enables them to guarantee home cleaners a fair wage while also ensuring homeowners a remarkably affordable price. Here’s how they work: rather than employing home cleaners to work for them, HomEx helps individuals establish and grow their own independent home cleaning businesses so they can work directly for the households! HomEx’s philosophy is that home cleaners deserve a fair wage for their hard work and homeowners shouldn’t have to pay so much either.

Ever home cleaner on HomEx’s network is a Certified Home Cleaner (CHC’s for short), which means they have passed the rigorous HomEx certification program. The HomEx Certification includes a pre-screening, a one-on-one interview with the founder, a criminal background check, and lastly, training in home cleaning and professionalism.

Since HomEx’s grand opening in March 2008, they have already garnered an impressive waitlist of individuals who aspire to join. They have especially caught the attention of immigrants who are tired of being subjected to low pay, abusive labor practices, and terrible working conditions from their employers. Unfortunately, many immigrants are taken advantage of by “Maid” franchises and other cleaning companies. But with HomEx, they are guaranteed a fair wage—$15/hour—as well as a partner who will guide and assist them as they grow their individual companies.

HomEx supports CHC’s in a number ways, but especially via their Management Services. For one small monthly fee—paid by each homeowner—HomEx provides unlimited homeowner-CHC communication, CHC replacement or substitution, intervention support, an online portal for credit card payments or for ordering cleaning supplies, and even 1099 tax form preparation. Management Services adds an element of professionalism to the relationship between households and CHC’s. It is how HomEx oversees the quality of their CHC’s work while also enabling individuals who do not speak English fluently the ability to participate.

The company’s founder, Derek Marin, was inspired to start HomEx because his mother, a Venezuelan citizen, cleaned homes for many years. Her hard work and dedication opened many doors for him and he hopes HomEx can do the same for others who, like his mom, aspire to pursue the American Dream.

Today, HomEx provides house cleaning services to households in Boston, Newton, Chestnut Hill, Brookline, West Roxbury, Cambridge, Somerville, and Milton. CHC’s also do extras like laundry, ironing, and even dog walking!

So if someone you know is looking for any of those home cleaning, or any of the extra services mentioned, in the Boston area, be sure to tell them to about HomEx. You can visit their website at http://www.CertifiedHomeCleaners.com.

Working where the wealthy people live.

This was one of the first articles posted on our old blog from Marchof 2007. We are re-posting it today.

House cleaning Tips - Working where the wealthy people live

March First 2007 Another day cleaning in Tucson Arizona cleaning where the wealthy people live. In Tucson Arizona that usually means the Foothills… And Since, Tucson is surrounded by no more than five mountain ranges; I could be talking about many areas. However, we all know the Foothills means the foothills of the Catalina mountains.

The service that I was providing today was a detailed initial clean… And for a wonderful retired
professional woman. The day went very much as planned. What made it special was the location very near a national Forrest and our beloved Catalina mountain. Away and above the bustle of Urban life below. I was leaving a scurry filled existence for solitude… And yet, this home was a mere 20 minutes, and a straight shot, from my center city home.

I consider myself Lucky and privileged to have been chosen to work in such a wonderful location. Since I am of a working class back round I never go into these areas… No it is not a gated community, just out of my economic reach. So I haven’t been there since… Well, since the land was raw desert and owned by Howard Hughes. This area was a hot party spot for many in years gone by… We’d drink our beers and smoke our smokes.. “of the day”… and enjoy the city lights… Now those cities light views belong mostly to the wealthy in gated communities

And about the only time a working person is asked there… Is to well work… But even in the day
it still remains a magic place for me… It might have been the first time ever that I had driven into the area completely sober… So yes, when people ask why I like cleaning other peoples toilets?… I don’t think about the toilets… I think about the wonderful people that I work for and the cool places I get to go to work…

Oh, did I ever say… “I only work for nice people”… I believe that I provide a valuable service and I choose to only work for nice people… Those that respect me and the service that I provide. Today, I assisted a wonderful person who no longer can maintain her home the way she wants… She is a wonderful person and full of great wisdom and stories… My customers add much more to my life than my fee will ever represent… I am grateful

We are back again after a WordPress update.

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

Recently, we updated to WordPress 2.51 and in the process got locked out of the blog. We are not sure what happened but WordPress created a second new admin account.

When we opened the account it was empty. However, when we looked at the blog all 130 posts where there. We just couldn’t do anything with the blog. We finally found a work around and are back up again … Yea!

We have noticed that the new version doesn’t like it when you copy from A Word document. So we once again are back to copying the document into notepad, striping out the Word formatting, and then copying everything back into the blog.
